WILDSTAR 100GbE SOSA-Aligned VPX Switch Wins 2020 Innovators Award from Military & Aerospace Electronics

Annapolis Micro Systems, a leading FPGA board and systems supplier, has won a 2020 Military & Aerospace Electronics Innovators Award for its WILDSTAR 100GbE OpenVPX Switch that is aligned with the SOSA™ Technical Standard. An esteemed and experienced panel of judges from the aerospace and defense community recognized Annapolis as a Platinum honoree – their highest award level.

“On behalf of the Military & Aerospace Electronics Innovators Awards, I would like to congratulate Annapolis Micro Systems on their Platinum-level honoree status,” said Military & Aerospace Electronics Editor-in-Chief John Keller. “This competitive program allows Military & Aerospace Electronics to celebrate and recognize the most innovative products impacting the aerospace and defense community this year.”

“We’re honored to receive this important third-party recognition,” said Noah Donaldson, Annapolis Micro Systems Chief Technology Officer. “Military & Aerospace Electronics is a leading voice in the industry, so it’s very meaningful that their expert panel of judges think so highly of our pioneering 100Gb Ethernet Switch.”

Annapolis developed and manufactures 3U VPX (WP3E10) and 6U VPX (WP6E10) versions of the next-generation WILDSTAR Switch.

Based on Mellanox Spectrum® silicon, each switch delivers industry-leading, true cut through latency, with up to 6.4 Tb/s of switching between backplane slots of multiple channels of 100Gb Ethernet. They also have dense front panel I/O to connect to external data sources. WP6E10 has optional VITA 66.5 optical backplane connectivity.

The 1/10/25/40/100Gb Ethernet control plane switch is based on Marvell® Prestera® DX silicon. Two Xilinx® Zynq® UltraScale+™ MPSoC Motherboard Controllers (XCZU5EG) provide multiple levels of hardware and software security.

At the invitation of the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force, the WP6E10 Switch was featured in a live conformance and interoperability demo at the Tri-Service Open Architecture Interoperability Demonstration (TSOA-ID) in January at Georgia Tech Research Institute. It was the first public demonstration of a SOSA™-aligned 100Gb Ethernet-capable VPX switch.

Both rugged high-performance switches are readily integrated into any SOSA-aligned VPX system, or deployed within Annapolis' proven WILD100™ EcoSystem.

Annapolis’ growing SOSA-aligned WILD100 EcoSystem is an interoperable portfolio of rugged high-performance 100GbE COTS boards and systems. Notable WILD100 products include:
